ABOUT KARL SCHATZ

  • I am currently traveling around the country with my girlfriend, Margaret, and our dog, Godfrey writing about and photographing goats and goat culture in America. We are chronicling our adventures on our new website: www.yearofthegoat.net

  • Until recently (August 2003) I was the picture editor of TIME.com, the website for TIME magazine.

  • I grew up in Maine.
  • I have a B.A. in Soviet Studies that I completed the year the Soviet Union ceased to exist.
  • I spent a year in Russia photographing Jewish Communities. I self-published a calendar of my work.
  • I have an M.A. in Communications Photography from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications.
  • I used to teach digital imaging and digital photojournalism at the International Center of Photography in NYC.
  • I shoot mostly black & white film.
  • The photographs on this website were made with: Nikon F4, Nikon FM2, YashicaMat EM, Horizont (a russian-made 35mm panorama camera), Nikon Coolpix 950, Olympus Stylus, and a Canon Powershot S230
  • I can juggle rubber chickens.
